Evening Expositions – “The Truth About Jesus”

The person of Jesus has been a significant figure throughout all history. You hear about him in the Christmas carols and he is worshipped by millions around the world. Yet, many people have different ideas about him. Some say he is a good moral teacher; others say he is a mythical figure and a legend. Some even say he is a lunatic! He himself claims that he is the Son of God.

So did Jesus really exist in history?

Can we believe in the authenticity of the Gospels?

Did Jesus really rise from the dead?

Is the man Jesus Christ really the Son of God?

Have these questions and more answered by Dr Paul Barnett, formerly Bishop of North Sydney and who has lectured in New Testament & Church History at Moore Theological College for over 28 years.

Speakers:
Dr Paul Barnett, Lecturer, Moore Theological College (Sydney, Australia)

About the Speaker

Dr Paul Barnett

DR PAUL WILLIAM BARNETT was the Anglican Bishop of North Sydney from 1990 until 2001. He was also a lecturer at Moore Theological College for over 28 years and had also served in a wide variety of ministries including being the Rector of St Barnabas Broadway, Chaplain to University of Sydney, President of Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students, Founding Editor of Christian Belief Series, Founder of the School of Christian Studies as well as Visiting and Research Professor to Regent College.

Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity from the University of London, completed a MA (Hons) from University of Sydney and a PhD from the University of London in the interface between New Testament history and Jewish history of the first century.

Bishop Paul Barnett's twin interests are Christian ministry (clergy and lay) and the "world" of the era of the New Testament. His study of Greek and Ancient History study at the University of Sydney resulted in a lifelong interest in Christian origins, the New Testament in its times and careful exegesis of New Testament texts, based on the Greek text. His passion is to connect the New Testament as it appeared in that "world" with the ministry in and to the "now world".

Paul is also the author of several books such as Is the New Testament History?, The Message of 2 Corinthians (Bible Speaks Today), Bethlehem to Patmos, The Truth About Jesus, Truth and Reality: The Resurrection of Jesus (with D. Petersen and P. Jensen) and Jesus and the Rise of Early Christianity.
