Ministry Matters 2008

Ministry Matters is a strand of Project Timothy which seeks to equip and help Christians think biblically about issues related to full-time Christian work. Richard will be bringing us expositions on Revelation 4-7 as well as a topical talk to help us think through bringing the gospel to the world.

Besides hearing the Bible taught, you will also have opportunities to meet full-time christian workers and get some first-hand answers to questions about full-time ministry. There will also be small group discussions where issues and questions concerning full-time ministry can be addressed and thought through.

Highlights of Ministry Matters 2008:

- Two expositions from Revelations 4-7. The expositions will focus on bringing the gospel to the world

- One thematic talk on "Bringing the gospel to the world"

- Seminar groups catered to addressing specific issues related to thinking about full-time paid Christian ministry whether you are just beginning to consider the issues or if you are on the verge of taking the plunge

Workshops catered to different strands:
- We will be addressing different groups at the conference based on where individuals are at in terms of their own considerations of full-time ministry and the practical issues involved at each of these stages.

Strand 1 – Where do we begin?
• A workshop to help guide people who are just beginning to think about full—time ministry. What to think about, what issues to consider, how to assess if they are suitable and how to plan for the important decisions ahead.
• This workshop is suitable for those attending MM for the first time or who have attended before but are still at the very early stages of thinking about the possibility of full-time ministry.
• Issues to be addressed: Why full-time ministry? How is it different from lay ministry? What does the Bible say about how do we know if someone is suitable? How do we assess if we are suitable? What are some things we can do, read, get involved in over the next two years to see if we might have gifts for ministry?

Strand 2 – Keeping focused on ministry
• A workshop to help guide those who are more or less convinced that they should pursue full-time ministry but are still perhaps 4-6 years away from college and would appreciate practical advice and help on how to continually equip themselves and stay focused on ministry in the meantime.
• Issues to be addressed: Working out exactly when to take the plunge into ministry/college? How to chat with family? Working out the financial implications and how to save for it? How to keep yourself serving and being trained up in the meantime? How to assess which are your gifts?

Strand 3 – Preparing to take the plunge
• A workshop to help guide those on the verge of taking the plunge into full-time ministry.
• This is for those who are heading into college in the next 2-3 years and are beginning to make more concrete plans towards that end.
• Issues to be addressed: Where to go for theological training and why? How to consider ministry opportunities in the future? How to make plans with local churches and pastors? What are the stresses and strains of college and ministry on families, wives?
